In between you and your opponent are two stacks of cards one face-down "Stock pile" and one face-up "Discard pile". You take turns to pickup a card from the Stockpile and put one down on the Discard pile. Your opposing player can then choose to pickup your discard or take a fresh card from the stock pile.
